Seemingly, the tech companies have won. The platforms we are forced to use on a day to day basis are feeding off of our intrinsic need for communication and self-doubts to create a parasitic cycle of engagement to milk and wring us for profits, all to churn out more slop to force-feed us. YouTube creates harmful echo chambers of thought that corrupt the minds of youth across the world; TikTok and Instagram will cater you algorithmically-determined content in real-time, all in an effort to get one more scroll out of you before bed; streaming platforms like Spotify will feed you the same few albums over and over again, never showing anything truly new and exciting, and Netflix makes billions a year off of convincing you to binge-watch that favorite show again. All these companies want is to suck you dry financially, diving faster and faster into a death spiral that will inevitably lead to the collapse of the media industry as we know it, making it impossible for the Common Man to take in any art. Consumption is the name of the game, and victory will only be achieved when that consumption can be streamlined down to the Greatest Common Denominator.
